Mai~Ryms - A Quality Collaboration in the Quest for Excellence

Mai-Ryms Pomeranians started as an individual effort by two concerned and conscientious breeders, Shelley Wiemer-Martin of Poetry Poms and Susan Plouff of Maitai Kennels.  Both shared a love of the breed and strived for the very best, in very different ways.  They both wanted sound and healthy dogs, as they live longer and healthy lives. But they also wanted "the perfect show dog."  So, they began their individual quests!  Shelley could spot type from a very early age, and has a gift of breeding for that type.  Susan can spot structure, good, bad and "we won't talk about it," as well as has a knack for bringing out the dogs best in the show ring.  Together they are Mai-Ryms Pomeranians, and are a Quality Collaboration in the Pursuit of Excellence!

A bit about Shelley.  Shelley resides in Spokane Valley, Washington, together with her husband, Russ, and got her start in Pomeranians in 2000.  Her foundation sire, Bi-Mar's Bandito, together with her foundation bitch, Can Ch Windmist Fashion Statement, produced her first specialty and group winner, BISS AM, Can, INT, UKC CH Rym's W Fair Warning, OFA.  Tiffany also produced her first Bred-By Champion, Ch Rym's W Focus on Fashion. In 2006, Shelley hit her another milestone, appearing as breeder on three champions who finished in one year.... Ch Ryms W PPS High R Pow R, Ch Sublime's Cocoberries 4 Ryms W, and Ch Randy's Halle Berrie.  Currently Shelley is President and founding member of Lilac City Pomeranian Club, which is consuming her extra time.

A bit about Susan.  Susan resides in Monroe, Washington, together with her husband Len, and got her start in 1981 in chows.  Susan started as Maitai Chows, a breed she bred, showed and loved for over 25 years with many ranked champions along the way.  She started in Pomeranians in 1991 and joined efforts with kathryn Hartz of Dover Pomeranians in Trenton NJ.  Together they produced several champions and specialty winners. Distance, together with increasingly more expensive and restrictive airline travel for animals, slowed their breeding efforts together.  Susan, together with her husband Len, busily campaigned BISS CH Maitai's Noble One, OFA, their #2 chow in Canada, #9 US, and cut back on showing poms as she started working on her judging license.  Today, Len and Susan no longer show their own chows and are showing not only Pomeranians, but also Italian Greyhounds, having finished their first champion in just over a 30 days and hope to soon to have a second for 2006.  Currently Len and Susan are both involved in Puget Sound Pomeranian Club, were they serve as Past President (Susan) and Past Secretary (Len).  They are also founding members of Lilac City Pomeranian Club.

In 2004, Randy Buske, another Pomeranian breeder introduced Susan and Shelley for the purpose of campaigning a special pom, Ferris.  Susan and Ferris went all the way to #6 pom in 2005 before leaving the ring to make some beautiful babies.  Along the way, he picked up a BISS, numerous group placements and a group 1, as well as his International, Canadian and UKC Championship title.  .

After Ferris's untimely death in March of 2006, although already friends, Shelley and Susan formed a bond of mutual friendship, grief and admiration. Together they formed a union with the mission to produce another dog with Ferris's quality and accomplishments. With the help and love of their husbands, they embarked on a new journey....in July of 2006, they became Mai-Ryms Pomeranians.

And now you know how they got their start.  However, today Susan has moved on to judging and breeding very infrequently and selling less often. Susan will be breeding under the "Mai-Ryms" kennel name. Shelley is putting much more focus on breeding, her lovely puppies gracing many a ring across the country.  Don't get us wrong, she isn't done showing and will frequently be spotted in the Northwest. Shelley is breeding under "Ryms W" kennel name, that she refers to as Poetry Poms.
